Stone's Home

He tells his story

about his temptations in the wilderness

because he needs listeners to be there with him

when temptations—which left him for awhile--

come again.

So let's join him in his desert

and learn how to overcome temptations.

**

In my wilderness I, Jeshua, am a wild animal amidst wild animals--

no longer like the domestic animals in the manger I was born in.

I am fueled by a fury I can't bury.

Beast please be tamed--but keep your flame.

A fox circles me—almost within reach

before I throw a stone shooing the fox back towards its den.

I have no home—

except these stones.

For forty days I eat no solid food,

to clear body and mind

so the wind I breathe

dances with me

and through me

nourishing my cells

guiding me

to nourish well.

An urge arises

before my eyes

to rush, grab, seize,

rather than grow

with wind’s love flow.

Let me gnaw stone--

stone feels like home.

Stone please be bread

or I’ll be dead

I want to scream

in this bad dream.

But we can’t live

on bread alone--

My appetite must move within

the graceful dance we have with wind.

Freeze all my greed

until I’m freed

when cold heart bleeds

for all who need!
